Ministry of Education Reviews Special Needs Education Policy to Promote Inclusion:

The Minister of Education, Childcare, and Science of the Republic of Somaliland, Prof. Ismail Duale Yusuf, has opened a meeting to review the special needs education policy.

In Hargeisa, the Minister of Education, Nurture, and Science of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr Ismail Duale Yusuf, today opened a review meeting aimed at finalizing the approval of the policy for people with special needs in educational settings. The event, which took place at the Jees Hotel in Hargeisa, brought together various sectors of society, such as education experts, academics, heads of ministry departments, directors of ministry departments, ministry officials, representatives from international organizations that work with the ministry of education, and politicians involved in the development of education for people with special needs.

The main objective of the meeting was to critically assess and refine the proposed policy to address the legislation supporting students with special needs. During the meeting, the participants emphasised the need for collaboration between local and international partners to ensure that the policy is in line with international standards while addressing the specific situation in Somaliland.

Prof. Yusuf (Minister) underlined the government’s commitment to inclusive education, stating that the policy marks an important step towards achieving quality and equitable education for all students in Somaliland. The participants then engaged in in-depth workshops and sessions to assess the policy framework prepared by the Ministry and its feasibility.

This meeting reflects Somaliland's efforts to strengthen its education system, with international organizations expressing their support for these changes that have improved Somaliland's education.
