HARGEISA – In response to the recent heavy rains that have severely affected parts of Hargeisa, the Minister of Education, Nurture and Science, Prof. Ismail Duale Yusuf, conducted a working visit to Waracade High School to assess the extent of the damage and determine the immediate needs of this school.

Accompanied by key officials including the Director of the Secondary Schools Department, Fadumo Gelle Jama, and the Maroodi-Jeex Regional Commissioner of Education, Mohamed Hussein Muse, the Minister witnessed firsthand the losses caused by the rainfall, particularly in school camp areas.

An emergency meeting was convened at the school, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders including local councilors, school subcommittee members, parents, and both regional and district education officials. Discussions centred on the challenges faced by the school, with participants highlighting the damaged school camp areas and gate and concerns over student safety.

Prof. Ismail Duale Yusuf reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that learning is not interrupted by natural calamities. He announced that an immediate assessment and relief effort would be launched to address the damage and implement preventative measures to safeguard educational institutions from future weather-related disruptions.

"The wellbeing of our students and the continuity of their education remain our top priority," said the Minister. "We will act swiftly to rehabilitate affected schools and ensure learning environments remain safe and accessible."
