MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, PARENTING AND SCIENCE & MINISTRY OF PUBLIC WORKS, LAND AND HOUSING SIGN HISTORIC AGREEMENT TO STRENGTHEN EDUCATION INFRASTRUCTURE

 

Hargeisa, 6th July 2025— Today, the two ministries reached a historic cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Education, parenting and Science and the Ministry of Public Works, Land, and Housing, focusing on the development and strengthening of education infrastructure in the country.

The agreement was officially signed by the Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Ismail Ducaale Yusuf, and the Minister of Public Works, Land and Housing, Mr. Hussein Ahmed Caydid, with direct financial support from the World Bank for the development of education facilities in Somaliland.

The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry of Education headquarters, was attended by senior officials from both ministries, members of the World Bank’s Project Implementation Unit (PIU), and other distinguished guests. PIU officials clearly stated their active role in monitoring, follow-up, and ensuring that the project is implemented to high-quality standards that align with international benchmarks.

The Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Ismail Ducaale Yusuf, described the agreement as a vital step toward improving education, stating:

"This collaboration paves the way for the implementation of modern educational facilities that will significantly transform the learning environment in Somaliland. It is a tangible step to ensure that students across the country have access to safe, high-quality, and needs-based educational spaces."

For his part, the Minister of Public Works, Land and Housing, Mr. Hussein Ahmed Caydid, emphasized the importance of constructing educational facilities based on well-planned designs that meet community needs and international standards. He said:

"This agreement guarantees that every new educational facility will be of high quality, durable, and suitable for both the current and future generations. This is a shared responsibility for all of us."

This project is part of Somaliland’s broader efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of education by establishing modern educational centers that genuinely address existing needs.

Finally, the two ministries agreed to work closely together throughout all stages of the project’s implementation to ensure tangible, visible results that will significantly contribute to the advancement of education in Somaliland.
